A collection of the headlines the editors wished they had thought more carefully about before allowing them to go to press! And, yes, they have all been used for real.
'Squad helps dog bite victim'
'Enraged cow injures farmer with axe'
'Plane was too close to ground crash probe told'
'Stolen painting found by tree'
'Two Soviet ships collide, one dies'
'Miners refuse to work after death'
'Killer sentenced to die for second time in 10 yrs'
'Red tape holds up new bridge'
'Typhoon rips through cemetery, hundreds dead'
'Kids make nutritious snacks'
'Chef throws his heart into helping feed the needy'
'Local school drop-outs cut in half'
'Official: only rain will cure drought'
'Lack of brains hinders research'
'March planned for next August'
'Patient at Death's door - Doctors pull him through'
'Fund set up for beating victim's kin'
'Queen Mary having bottom scraped'
'20 year friendship ends at the Altar'
You do have to think carefully about some of these, and remember that newspaper headlines often have a word or two omitted so that the headline will be snappy and attention-grabbing. The downside is that often the papers go to press with a more comical headline than was planned!
Keep an eye out for national and local newspapers that may have made 'comical' headlines!
Maybe you could share them with us and we will issue another collection of the best.
