A make-over

a dining room

I have an urge to redecorate a room in the house. It doesn't matter which room it is, I just want to change something, somewhere!

The problem is that I am the only one in the whole house who finds the prospect of redecorating an exciting one; husband is clearly not going to engage with me in any conversation about which room to do, or which colours to use. The children are happy enough to let me natter on about it, just as long as neither of their rooms are chosen for the task (they both know that they would have to purge the room of unwanted clutter before I start!!).

It would appear that I am 'on my own' with this job........

The dining room has been selected!

This room has 'lost it's way' really (ooh, that sounds so much like a line from one of the tv programmes about interior design! If I have started to speak like them, I think I need to watch them less often) - husband thinks it is an office, and piles up paperwork etc on one corner of the dinner table with the overspill lying in the corner beside it - my son thinks it is a gaming arcade and jealously guards his adopted corner of the room where his game console and computer reside. I would like to reclaim this hotch-potch of a room as a sophisticated dining area where we can all sit together each mealtime whilst conversing about our respective days.

However, as I thought more deeply about this matter, I recalled the fact that 4 days out of 7 we do not sit down to eat together due to after-school activities, choir practise and horse riding. Of the remaining 3 evenings 1 or 2 are usually spent without one or other of the children who are now developing their own social lives...... That leaves just one day,one evening,on which this wonderful room can live up to it's name!

Forget the makeover for the room.......it's this family that needs one!!
