Saying of the Week

Sayings, proverbs and maxims (well-known, wise comments) are an important part of everyday language. It can be tricky, however, to know how and whether to use them. Firstly because they have quite specific meanings and contexts and secondly because they can quickly become dated.

We have chosen sayings that are used in current English and are easily absorbed into everyday speech and writing.

If you know any that you would like to share why not add them in the comments box opposite.
