R&B = rhythm and blues – a type of popular music of the 1940s and 1950s which has a strong beat
the charts – plural noun – the numbered lists produced each week of the records with the highest sales: eg the dance charts / popular song charts. It’s been number one in the charts for six weeks.
top the charts – sell the highest number of records in any one week, and so come first in the list of popular releases.
a Brit Award – one of the pop music awards awarded annually
