DOGSbark/ woofyelp – (when in pain)whimper / cry – (when anxious or excited)Howl – (when wanting attention, some will do this when music or singing is heard!)growl – ( a warning to ‘keep your distance’ )pant – (laboured breathing when they have exercised, also used when they are sweating, it helps to cool them down. A panting dog requires rest, shade and probably water)

neighwhinny – a call due to anxiety or distresswhicker – a soft, low sound when content or happysnort – heavy breathing when working hard
BIRDS
ducks – quacksongbirds – tweet, twitter, warble, chirruphens – cluckchicks – cheeprooks and crows – caw, cackleswans – the mute swan makes no sound, but is said to do so just before it dies- hence the term ‘swan-song’ ( a final deed)
