A tribute – an act, statement or gift which is intended to show gratitude, respect or admiration
hit-and-miss – unreliable in terms of quality, accuracy, or success. Eg "The bus is often late arriving at the university, so getting to my lectures on time is a fairly hit-and-miss business……"
niche – describes a specialized product or area of trade
hippy / hippie – noun – a person, typically young, especially in the late 1960s and early 1970s, who believed in peace, was opposed to some of the accepted ideas about how to live. Some wore their hair long, lived in groups and took drugs

The high street is where many important shops are in a town; used adjectivally it can describe products, especially clothes, which are intended for the ordinary public and not for rich people – eg high street fashion
mainstream – noun / adjective – the way of life or set of beliefs accepted by most people
to have a warm glow about sth – to feel positive about sth, because you feel you have done something good.
to come in for – phrasal verb – to be subject to blame or criticism
to float a business – to start selling shares in a business or company for the first time
The City – the business centre of London where the large financial organizations are, such as the Bank of England
to come across – to create an impression, have an effect on people
Eg ‘He came across as highly competent’ – i.e. he created an impression that he was very competent
not to know what to make of s.o. – to have difficulty understanding someone
