The Arctic Monkeys are an English post-punk indie rock band formed in 2002. Their first success was a single called "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor‘ which reached number 1 in the UK Top 40 Singles List in 2005, and in 2006 they released their first album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.

The term ‘indie‘ describes rock musicians who have not signed contracts with major record companies, but have been signed by small, independent record labels. This independence means musicians maintain control of their music and careers, although many subsequently sign up with large record companies.
The term ‘indie‘ is an umbrella term covering any sort of rock music or style of music close to rock music. It usually has some sort of link with underground or counterculture.
