Beijing blasts Amnesty rights claims

Jul 29 – The Chinese government has dismissed a claim by Amnesty International that Beijing has broken promises on human rights.

With just over a week to go to the start of the Olympics, the human rights group says that instead of living up to its promises to improve human rights, the Chinese government has instead clamped down even further on dissidents, journalists and lawyers.

China’s Foreign Ministry rejected the assertion and said Amnesty was viewing the situation through "tinted glasses".

Paul Chapman reports.
