Brazil defends its biofuel boom

Apr 17 – Brazil’s president defended Brazil’s export boom in ethanol, derived from sugar cane, after critics accused biofuels of raising global food prices and contributing to world hunger.

Rising food prices was the main topic of a U.N. Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) conference on Latin America and the Caribbean which began in Brasilia on Monday.
