I dreamed a dream

We have a strong tradition in modern British musicals. This one has been running for years (over 25 years) in London’s West End, and is called Les Misérables (The Poor or The Wretched). The show is based on the novel of the same name by the French writer Victor Hugo. Listen to this song from it and see what you think! It is about the loss of political innocence and youthful idealism (after the popular uprising in Paris in 1830 was quelled by government troops) – we hope you don’t agree too much! But you will agree that the singer’s diction is wonderfully clear! You can learn a lot from imitating and copying good actors and musicians who enunciate clearly. Not all do, of course – some mumble their lines and you have no idea what they are saying!
