Ellipsis in speech 3 – exercise
The exchange below has examples of ellipsis in it. Can you re-write it adding the words which have been left out?
Josephine: "Sharon and Pete’ve been ill with worry, Mary says. Haven’t been out anywhere or seen anyone for weeks."
Mark: "Ill?"
Josephine: "Well, you know, stressed-out. Know what they mean, can be really hard thinking you’re about to lose your job."
Mark: "Have to get used to it. Happens all the time. Don’t know what they expect, in that line of business. Fact of life for most of us. Pair of moaners."
