ELTMentor News
Here’s our weekly digest of forum comments, upcoming dates and other snippets of useful information.
The half-day training
This was a great event and we had fun. We were all pretty tired by the end but we got through quite a lot of material and did a twitter session and some prestos. Edith sadly lost her connection right at the end of the day and couldn’t manage her Presto but we will try and do it at our next session.
Here is the link to the recording of the workshop.

It’s 4 hours long so you’ll need a bit of stamina.
Accessing previous sessions
I know that some of you have had difficulty accessing some of the recordings. This was partly my fault as I hadn’t registered you all for sessions you had missed as you joined the programme.
I think I have done this now but please let me know if there are any sessions you have been unable to access and that I may have overlooked.
The Forum
Don’t forget to use the forum for sharing ideas, asking for help or posting successes!
Start your own thread choose whatever it is that you are passionate about and let’s get discussing it.
Your passwords should all be your name+elt on the end. If you have problems let me know.
Can anybody who hasn’t yet please post up a short bio? We can’t wait to find out all about you 🙂
Here’s the link again:
If you haven’t managed to find the forum yet let me know.
#eltmentor
We did a short practice session with this at the workshop. Pauline your tweet at the workshop did show up on #eltmentor but not while we were practising. I found it later – so it worked Yippee!
Edith is now an inveterate tweeter and is becoming an #’eltchat regular!
She was also asked to write the #eltchat summary for last Wednesday’s chat on business English (share the link with us when it’s posted!)
Well done Edith!
I see that Marcia and Edith have posted some things there to look at – thank you for this. If you have anything you want to share then this is another place (as well as the forum) you can post.
This is our special hashtag (for the time being at least – I started #englishcourses for my courses and now it’s become very popular!)
If you want to go ahead and try by yourself then follow the instructions below it is quite easy.
(Sign up to twitter, then sign up to tweetdeck and post a comment there. If you need any help with this let me know).
#eltchat
For those of you who would like to follow #eltchat but haven’t signed up to twitter and would prefer to ‘lurk’ and observe before taking the plunge, you can observe #eltchat on Tweetchat.com. Here is the link:
When you get to the site add eltchat to the # box. You can then sit back and watch the action! If you want to contribute you can sign in but this is really the best place for smart lurking :-0
#eltchat is held on Wednesdays at 12.00 and 21.00 UK time – but the # is in use at all times so you can check in anytime to see what is going on.
To find out more about eltchat here is a link to the site – even if you don’t attend the chat you can get great information and links to resources via this site:

Our next sessions
I’m making some changes to the timetable. I’ll amend these on the timetable on the forum so you can check everything there.
We were due to have a technology webinar this month but because the workshop was delayed I’m going to postpone that to November 21st. I’ll combine this with the Q&A session on things so far.
That means that the half-day workshop scheduled for November will be too much in one month I think so what I propose do is have Christmas party online instead! This will be on December 4th. We will have Christmas/Holiday theme and share material, games, songs etc.. I’d also like to do an open mic session where you can choose a story or poem or song to share and then a Christmas Pecha Kucha.
Gapfillers
Don’t forget to give me feedback if you use the site for yourself or with students. Also if you have suggestions they’re always welcome 🙂
If you have any students interested then just tell them to contact me mentioning you and I’ll sort everything out for them.
Just a reminder that we do offer a school licence so if your school has advanced students (if wants to use it for teachers) this is possible – just let me know.
We can also syndicate content which means we can deliver straight to your school site or intranet.
Next Session October 24th 12.00 p.m. UK time
This on dealing with disability in the ELT classroom.
Need help with anything?
If anybody else needs help with anything just post in the forum, or on twitter or email me or send a message in Gapfillers. I am really pleased that you are using the forum – let’s get more things posted to discuss.
Don’t forget to put any suggestions in the forum, this is your space to share ideas, experiences and ask questions. It’s been a little quiet there recently it would be good to get it buzzing again!
Until next week
