Happy Easter! Have a lovely break 🙂 |
Here’s our weekly digest of forum comments, upcoming dates and other snippets of useful information.
Half-Day Workshop
This was a great event. Marcia, Joanna and Blanca were all able to attend and we got through quite a lot of content.
Thank you Marcia for your wonderful presentation on young learners and all the links that you provided. I think Marcia is going to add these to the forum so that you can click through and get them there.
After young learners we had a long session on motivation (some links below) and were able to discuss all sorts of ideas and also scenarios that faced us in our day to day teaching.
I’ll start a thread on this on the forum so that those who couldn’t make it can add ideas and suggestions.
The recording, as always, is available on Wiziq to watch or download. I will also get it on to the ELTMentor section of Gapfillers in the next week.
We ended the day by talking about the levels we enjoyed teaching and why we thought that was so. I know that I really enjoyed the whole afternoon and I think the others did too.
Future sessions
Here are the dates for the sessions for the next month. Don’t forget that everything (including all the previous sessions) is now on Gapfillers under the ELTMentor section on the Home Page.
April 16th our final technology workshop in the first year – building your PLN, forming professional partnerships online, getting PD online that really does ‘continue’
I may change this as I am thinking that it might be more useful for us to attend a VRT session together and then discuss it. I also want to share some of the IATEFL things I attended – so we would do this after the conference – I’ll confirm once I have seen the VRT schedule
April 30th is the next webinar on assessment
Please make a note of the days and I hope that you will all try and come along!
Of course this is not the end as ELTMentor keeps going and there will be new ideas and new areas to discover!
The new timetable – May onwards – will be up on the forum soon.
Forum:
Don’t forget to visit this and share your ideas, successes and suggestions. You can ask questions too. It was suggested that we all share email addresses. I will make a list and send it around. Let me know if you DON’T want me to include your email address – it will only go to people in this group.
Joanna has posted some of the challenges that are facing her at the moment. One of these is teaching teens who keep using L1 and I know that some of you also teach teenagers so perhaps (Katia?) you might be able to offer some advice.
It would be great if you could post some help or exchange Skype names and have a chat?
Here’s the link again:
If you haven’t managed to find the forum yet let me know.
#eltmentor
Don’t forget this hashtag on twitter is for us to post anything we find of interest for the rest of the group.
(Sign up to twitter, then sign up to tweetdeck and post a comment there).
If you need help with this let me know.
I plan to visit twitter again in the technology webinar.
Virtual Round Table
This is a great online conference to attend. The theme is language teaching with technology and there are lots of good ideas and information to be had!
Over 40 presentations, panel discussions, Pech Kucha and presto nights, Key Note speakers, an Open mic, an ‘after-show’ party in second life and much much more! All from the comfort of your PC, Mac or laptop!!
Submissions for presentations are closed I did want to get some of you to present but it all kicked off while I was at IATEFL (if any of you did submit something then well done!).
I would however urge you to attend if you can. It is over three days (April 20/21/22) and you can come and go as you wish.
Here is the link to the site ( you can join this teacher community) and you will be able to find information about previous conferences and you can also watch previous presentations.

Gapfillers
Don’t forget to give me feedback if you use the site for yourself or with students. Also if you have suggestions they’re always welcome 🙂
Just a reminder that we do offer a school licence so if your school has advanced students (if wants to use it for teachers) this is possible – just let me know.
We can also syndicate content which means we can deliver straight to your school site or intranet.
Need help with anything?
If anybody else needs help with anything just post in the forum, or on twitter or email me or send a message in Gapfillers. I am really pleased that you are using the forum – let’s get more things posted to discuss.
Don’t forget to put any suggestions in the forum, this is your space to share ideas or experiences and to ask questions.
You can always email me too berni.wall@language-tuition.co.uk about anything that you are concerned about or if you want to ask a question.
Until next week
Berni
