Entry for 14th Nov 2007

dog and two cats

‘Two steps forward, one step back’ is a very common phrase in English to describe a lack of real progress!

Much of life seems to follow this pattern.

In attempts to get out of the house to go to an appointment yesterday this was certainly the case.

We have two kittens and a small, curious and very determined dog who has decided that he is in charge of the cats.

The drill for getting out and securing the house is to put the cats outside and get the dog into the back hall. So cat number one goes out pursued by the dog. I then have to chase after the dog and bring him back inside. While I’m doing that the cat sees its opportunity and shoots back into the house!!

Cat number 2 is waiting by the door and is put outside while the dog is being firmly held by his collar. Cat number one has, of course, gone into hiding. As I begin to call for the cat the dog joins in by rushing in and out of rooms and ferreting under the chairs and sofa. The cat is finally located on the stairs. With the dog now in the hallway, I attempt to put cat 2 outside only to be greeted by cat 1 at the door who makes a dash for the living room!!!

With one cat under each arm they are finally dispatched outside and the door is locked and bolted.

Imagine my dismay when I look down to see a parcel sitting on the step that really needs to go inside the house!!

Yes, I was a little late for the appointment.
