UK’s HBOS, Lloyds in merger talks?

Sep 17 – After days of speculation over the future of troubled Halifax Bank of Scotland, sources say HBOS is in advanced merger talks with Lloyds TSB.

If the deal goes through the two would create a $50 billion mortgage giant with almost a third of the UK’s mortgage market.
