Historic speeches – vocabulary

These powerful words, used in the correct context will ‘beef up’ (strengthen) any speech! You will notice that they are not all positive words. Elizabeth was careful to use equally strong negative words to describe the enemy and their actions, and she counteracted the effects of these words with strong positive ones about herself and her soldiers. This speech was intended to ‘fire up’ their emotions of pride, anger and survival, and prepare them for battle. It worked. They won!
