Hot Stuff! Vocabulary and quiz

The following vocabulary was used in the travel extract on Kilauea. Have a look at the words and their definitions and then have a go at the quiz based on them.

molten – melted or liquified

toxic – poisonous

plume – feather, feather-like

blanket -a thick covering, cover for a bed

unstable – likely to change suddenly and cause danger or trouble, not firm or fixed correctly

hike – a long walk (usually for pleasure)

crater – very large hole in the ground or on the surface of a planet

frisky – high-spirited, lively

round-trip – a circular journey finishing where it started out

scalloped – fan-shaped as in a scallop shell

rugged – rocky, steep, uneven and jagged

savage – wild, untamed, cruel, violent

sturdy – strong, firm,unlikely to be damaged or inured

aggravated – to annoy, to make worse
