Look at these words that appear in the video. Make sure you understand them before you watch.

to master – become an expert at something

critical – very important

a given time – a particular time/era

a commodity – a good that can be sold

to dispel – get rid of, take away

myths – stories that are not true

a bar-room – a bar

a brawl – a fight

vice-versa – the opposite is also true

a bunch – a group or bundle

a hand (cards) – the cards you have in your hand that you are playing

to out rank – be better than

a pair of deuces – two cards of low value

a suite – a family of cards all having the same picture (hearts, diamonds, spades or clubs)

to psyche – play psychological games, make people think you have a particular ‘hand’

the pot (in a game) – the prize money

to get over – recover from (fear)

to give up – offer something

a flea-market – a market selling second-hand goods

a flea-market queen – someone who (visits these markets and) is an expert

to take it or leave it – not desperate to have something

poker faced – showing no emotion

gratuitous – giving something for nothing

to concede – give up, let the other party gain

to unload – give something to someone else

take (something) to heart – be emotional about something
