An idea of yours, perhaps? A1

We say ‘a friend of mine / yours / his / hers / ours / theirsnot ‘a friend of me / you / him’ etc.

  • We stayed in Henley last weekend. A friend of mine has a caravan there. (not a friend of me)
  • We’re going walking with some friends of ours. (not some friends of us).
  • Tom ‘phoned up an acquaintance of his.
  • Carol and Brad had an argument with some neighbours of theirs.
  • It was a good idea of yours to see this film – I’ve enjoyed it.

In the same way we say ‘a friend of Geoff’s‘, ‘a necklace of my aunt’s‘ etc

  • It was a suggestion of Geoff’s that made me try waterski-ing.
  • Mr Bradley is a close friend of my aunt’s.

Can you rewrite these sentences using this structure?

Please do not become too disappointed if you seem to have your correct answers marked wrong – there is a bit of a blip (mistake) on this exercise at the moment! We’re getting back to it!
