IELTS Focus – Week 5 Academic
IELTS Focus and Intensive – Week 5 Academic

This programme comprises the following weekly components:
4 (3 plus word of the day) set exercises each day (Mon to Fri) on Gapfillers (these are in the Gapfillers latest panel and dated – on right hand side of home page) This should take you around 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete, depending on the type of exercise.
Two supplementary reading and listening exercises from Gapfillers plus 2 each of IELTS reading and listening exercises which I’ll send to you.
Both a task one and task two exercise. I will also give you the questions for task 1 and task 2 which you can complete and send via email.
Finally, a weekly Skype lesson for checking the week’s work and practising the speaking part of the test
Doing the exercises
– This week you’ll be reviewing your progress
– You will do a full listening and reading test which you will send to your teacher for correction
– This will be returned with the corrections (you may be asked to repeat it before you get the answers if there are too many errors – don’t worry about this if it happens as it is all part of making progress)
– From this you will see what targets you need to set for the next few weeks and you can talk about this in your individual Skype lesson that you will have after you have completed the assessments.
– During the Skype call the teacher will also assess your speaking
Schedule – week 5
This week you will not have as much set work as usual – explore Gapfillers for grammar exercises to do on areas that you feel are weak. Also choose some reading and listening topics that you are interested in (you can find these exercises in the archives) or that are fun (songs or cooking etc..)

Day 5
– Complete the daily exercises on Gapfillers – grammar, listening and news bulletin.
– Now catch up on anything that you have not completed in the past 5 weeks or have a break from your study and relax.
– You will have a one to one Skype session to look at where you are now and what you need to do in the next 5 weeks to make sure everything is on-track.
Check:
– Did you complete all the daily exercises (3 per day plus word of the day)?
– Did you make a note of all your scores and timings?
– Did you make a note of any problems or things you didn’t understand?
– Did you send me your writing exercises via email and did you plan these first?
Now you need to focus on where you are currently and where you need to be and we will move nearer to your goal.
– Sometimes it’s good to take a break it helps things to ‘bed down’; if you are constantly cramming information you can get over-loaded
– Watch a movie that you’ve always wanted to watch – try it completely in English (or use English subtitles if you are afraid you won’t catch everything)
– Read for pleasure – choose one of the graded readers (get them from your library) and simple enjoy the story – don’t look up words, don’t make notes on vocabulary, don’t do anything but relax, read and enjoy.
– In your lesson with your teacher you will be going through your IELTS listening and reading tests with a ‘fine-tooth-comb’ so take the chance now to stop studying and enjoy your well-deserved rest.
