IELTS Focus – Work for Week 1

This programme comprises the following weekly components:
4 (3 plus word of the day) set exercises each day (Mon to Fri) on Gapfillers (these are in the Gapfillers Daily Practice panel and dated – in the middle of the home page) This should take you around 40 minutes to 1 hour to complete, depending on the type of exercise.
2 supplementary reading and listening exercises from Gapfillers plus IELTS reading and listening exercises.
Both a task one and task two exercise. I will also give you the questions for task 1 and task 2 which you can complete and send via email.
The Gapfillers listening exercises can be quite long so break them up into sections that you find manageable. Don’t treat any of the exercises (IELTS too) like test practice, make sure you find all the answers however long it takes – these are to train your skills- getting the answers is key, speed can come later.
Finally your 2 weekly Skype lessons
Just follow the links to the exercises. It is possible to do them on the screen using the magnifier but you may want to download and print and create an IELTS folder to work from.
Prepare:
– Have a folder or notebook where you can record new vocabulary, and other language – this can be physical or on your computer
– Make a space in this to record your scores – you will be looking for patterns in your results and this will help us to set targets?
– Don’t forget to email me straight away if you are uncertain about anything, can’t follow the link or find what you need. I’ll respond as quickly as I can.
Doing the exercises
– Make sure you make a note of your scores (I will ask you for these)
– Try the exercises more than once if you need to
– Make a note of anything that you don’t understand or is confusing
