Welcome to this IELTS programme we will be working closely together for the next 3 months to get you to the band that you really want

In this first week I want to get an idea of where you are now with your IELTS and to that end you will complete an IELTS Reading and Listening Test.

This is purely for diagnosis so that we can get an idea of how you perform on the tasks and which tasks are the most challenging. You can take as much time as you wish on these exercises to get the answers that you are happy with.

Just follow the links to the exercises. It is possible to do them on the screen using the magnifier but you may want to download and print and create an IELTS folder to work from.

This week will be a little less intensive than the following ones

Doing the exercises

– Try the exercises more than once if you need to
– Make a note of anything that you don’t understand or is confusing
– Email me if there is anything that you don’t understand

Schedule – week 1

This week is all about diagnosis.

Day 1

– Complete the IELTS listening test
– Prepare a plan for Task one
– If you have time complete the daily exercises on Gapfillers (Gapfillers Daily Practice – grammar, reading and news bulletin)

Day 2

– Complete the IELTS reading test
– Write Task one and send it to me (send me your plan too)
– If you have time complete the daily exercises on Gapfillers (Gapfillers Daily Practice – grammar, reading and news bulletin)

Day 3

– Prepare a plan for Task two then write the task and send it to me
– If you have time complete the daily exercises on Gapfillers (Gapfillers Daily Practice – grammar, reading and news bulletin)

Day 4

– If you have time complete the daily exercises on Gapfillers (Gapfillers Daily Practice – grammar, reading and news bulletin)
.
– We should have had our Skype call where we will go over the test results, talk about targets and do a speaking practice.

Day 5

– If you have time complete the daily exercises on Gapfillers (Gapfillers Daily Practice – grammar, reading and news bulletin)
– You will have been sent your writing tasks with comments and also model essays to look at. Spend some time today going over all of these – compare the models with your writing and then choose any words or phrases that you want to try and use in your next task and write these down.

Prepare:

– Have a folder or notebook where you can record new vocabulary, and other language – this can be physical or on your computer
– Make a space in this to record your scores – you will be looking for patterns in your results and this will help us to set targets?
– Don’t forget to email me straight away if you are uncertain about anything, can’t follow the link or find what you need. I’ll respond as quickly as I can.

Next week we start on a daily programme of IELTS and general English exercises to improve all your skills and move you towards your IELTS score.
