IELTS writing task 2
The average British child between the ages of 4 and 15 spends more than 20 hours watching television or on the internet. Studies show he/she only spends about 7 hours in physical exercise.
How does this compare with the situation in your country? How can parents make sure children get enough exercise?
Recent
studies show children in Britain spend majority of their time watching
television, surfing internet and engage in very little physical activity.
Children in India have similar sedentary lifestyle, Parents play a major role
to combat this hazardous habit and inculcate healthy habits, which is also
discussed later on.
In
my country, children are becoming less physically active. The reasons are
varied. Firstly, leisure activity to them means watching television, playing
video games, exploring internet, and chatting with friends over telephone or
online. But, we cannot blame them fully. The number of parks, play grounds is
fast decreasing in our country, so scarcity of open space is another reason.
The academic pressure is one cause which leaves them with very little time and
energy to play or do any other physical activity.
Here
comes the role of parents to ensure a healthy lifestyle for their children.
They can limit screening time, like no more than two hours of watching
television or computer surfing altogether. They can enrol them in any sports
club like cricket, basket ball, football or dancing, anything they like and
enjoy. As a family they can play a sport or do outdoor activity. This will not
only motivate the child but also she / he can spend quality time with the
family. Parents, specially in my country should put less pressure on their kids
to excel in their class and let them be kids again. They should realize a
healthy mind requires a healthy body.
Thus,
children becoming less active is a global problem. It is the duty of the
parents to take care of their child’s health and make an earnest effort to make
them more active.
