Mar. 14 – 56 people have gone on trial in connection with one of Europe’s biggest financial scandals – the collapse of the Italian food giant Parmalat.
The defendants are facing bankruptcy fraud charges and the case could last several years. Parmalat was best known before its fall for its long life milk. It buckled more than four years ago with a 14 billion euro hole in its accounts. Its demise wiped out the savings of thousands of small investors.
