‘My kingdom for a bicycle lane!’

This statement expresses a heartfelt desire for something. It is based on a quotation from Shakespeare’s Richard III, when the king had fallen off his horse after being attacked, and was forced to wander about on foot like an ordinary soldier. He promised his kingdom (in the play, that is!!) to anyone who would give him a horse.
The quotation is "A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!" and is a typical phrase from Shakespeare which has passed into everyday language in various adaptations, such as the one here.
