My Life as a Teacher – short version
I started teaching English after I came back from spending 11 months as an exchange student in Kansas, USA, in 1993. I started doing it because it was easy, I liked it and it made me some money while I studied to get a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design at the University. Since then I never stopped teaching, because I discovered I was in love with teaching.
When I had to choose between continue working with Graphic Design or continue teaching English (which at the time I did on weekends) my choice was too obvious – teaching English was what made me happy, so I went all in, focusing solely on it, working at improving, developing and learning more about techniques, language and all related.
I have taught all age groups and all levels – from real beginners to advanced conversation groups who already had proficiency certificates and just wanted to maintain their fluency. But I think I am a better teacher to adults (younger and older) – not much patience or ability for young children.
I currently teach at a Binational center in my hometown of Recife, in the northeast of Brazil. We have about 3,500 students.
