Notes on ‘The Moon’

Questions

  1. The moon is described as a Queen, a winged creature (e.g. bird or moth) – Her gauzy wings and, less obvious – a watchman – she watches the earth, also perhaps a maid or cleaner – polishing the stars!
  2. The scarf illustrates the phases of the moon – sometimes quartered sometimes half
  3. reigns, this is the word we use to describe the action of being a monarch e.g. Queen Victoria reigned for over sixty years!
  4. This is a beautiful image as it evokes the brightness of the stars and also the Moon’s devotion to the night sky.
  5. The sun is the stronger and harsher (softer sister) of the two celestial sisters – interestingly the sun is also shown as female, most often it is male
