Reporting verbs

when we convert sentences to reported or indirect speech, we need to add a ‘reporting verb’

Example:

‘Can I have a cup of tea please?’

this becomes

He asked me if he could have a cup of tea

using the verb – ask to denote a question.

(Other types of sentence may be commands, exclamations, orders etc)
