Jan 5 – French President Sarkozy is back in the Middle East working on a ceasefire, and possibly preparing for a new role with the US.
Israel moved against Hamas late last month with air strikes after a six month ceasefire ended. This weekend Israel deployed ground troops into Gaza. The death toll in Gaza has reached at least 541 people, Four Israelis have been killed since the offensive began.
