Soccer violence mars UEFA Cup final

May 15 – A Russian soccer fan was taken to hospital after he was stabbed outside the City of Manchester Stadium following the UEFA Cup final.

Trouble also flared in the city centre when a big screen relaying the match broke down.

Riot police faced hostile Rangers fans, many of whom had been drinking for a number of hours and who began throwing bottles and cans at the police. Zenit St Petersburg beat Rangers 2-0.
