Sports Blog 28th May
It’s been an eventful week!
Briefly, well done Chelsea in the FA Cup final & bad luck Liverpool in the European Champiopns League final, losing to AC Milan. Well, you may think, the football season is over but no such luck, England play Brazil later this week at Wembley & then have a European qualifier aginst Estonia next week. There were two highlights of the week for me, the first was watching my daughter playing in the first IX Rounders match for her school (St. Martins Ampleforth) against Cundall Manor. Never mind all these over pampered, overpaid footballers & other sporting stars, just enjoy watching kids playing for the fun of it with a little bit of competitive edge as they try to win for their team. The day started with the opposition turning up 45 minutes late (no starting on time for the TV schedules then!), probably a bit of psychological mindgames here as it was a pretty nippy wind out these and our girls were struggling to keep warm despite practising. Then Cundall only turned up with one team instead of the expected two. So the 2nds played their game first and got well beaten. The first team were now rather frustrated by the wait and the opposition were nicely warmed from their first match. The next game, however, was a close fought affair with Cundall winning by a narrow margin, 5-4. The second highlight of the week was on Friday when I went to watch the cricket at Headingly, England playing in the 2nd Test match against the West Indies. Although the game will be long finished, I am going to report on this day out in the next blog especially on crowd behaviour.
