The Bridge of Sighs, St John's Chapel, Cambridge

The Bridge of Sighs is one of St John’s College’s famous sights. You can stand on it and watch people punting on the river below! A punt is a special, flat-bottomed boat.

Fellows (= university teachers, both male and female!)) of St John’s College are the only people outside the Royal Family legally allowed to eat unmarked mute swans! All unmarked swans in open water in the UK have automatically belonged to the Crown (the British monarch) since the 12th century. This means the royal family alone has had the right to eat swan, apart from two organisations to whom they granted rights of ownership of some sections of river where swans live, in the fifteenth century. St John’s College remains one of these two organisations!
