Sun, Seine and sand
Jul 16 – Two thousand tonnes of sand has been dumped on the banks of the River Seine as workers shape the ultimate urban beach in central Paris.
Now in its seventh year, Paris Plage transforms the centre of the city into a beachside leisure area featuring swimming, mini-golf, petanque, table tennis, sunbathing and other activities synonymous with a day by the sea.
Jean-Christophe Choblet, the designer responsible for Paris Plage, said he wanted to recreate an old-fashioned idea of a beach as immortalised by famed French actor Jacques Tati in the 1952 classic "Monsieur Hulot’s Holiday".
