My teacher bio

Hello, I’m Wellington and I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but I live in Guarulhos, a city situated in greater Sao Paulo.

When I started school back in 1986, I felt particularly interested in teaching but at the beginning, everything seemed quite normal, the initial amazement of the student in relation to the teacher, but as time went by, I noticed that teachers’ attitudes and behaviour used to affect my own attitude and ideas. As a consequence, my first job was in a primary school as an office assistant. I’ve worked there for more than 13 years!!! I started teaching at the age of 16 but it was not English, it was computing – another area which I feel particularly interested in. At that time, I had been studying English at a language school for about a year. When I was 18, I started teaching English for children aged 7-12 and I continued teaching computing as well as working in the administrative area at the school.

Soon after I sat for the Cambridge FCE exam in 2000, I was invited to teach at a private language school and then my ELT career actually started.

I’ve worked for some different schools and had some private students as well, including classes on weekends for a social programme supported and sponsored by the Sao Paulo state government. I’ve also been an English teacher at a state school here in Guarulhos, where I live, for about 2 and a half years and the experience was tiring but, on the other hand, very special and rewarding.

I’ve never been afraid of working hard. I think it reinforces our own strengths and helps us control our weaknesses, which is wonderful.

Last semester, I finished the Cambridge CELTA course in Sao Paulo, and now I’m a Cambridge CELTA certified teacher.

At present, I’m working for a well-known English language school in Guarulhos-Brazil, where I’m dealing with up-to-date methodology and Interactive Whiteboard, and everything is being wonderful.
I think education and technology are essential to make our lives better and give people the chance to live more integrated and share their experiences.
