Twitter and the recession fuel growth of English language
The so called "internet generation" is inceasingly making it’s presence felt and is now affecting the development of the English language itself.
Users of social networking sites such as Twitter, MySpace and Bebo have managed to add some of the 267 new "words" which have been added to the Collins English Dictionary.
Among the new "words" are sounds used in everyday speaking, such as "hmm" and "heh". Other new additions to the dictionary include contracted words such as "noob", short for newbie.
The word twitter managed to get itself two enties in the dictionary, being both a noun (as in the website Twitter) and a verb (as in to twitter).
