Verbs followed by a preposition or particle A4

a) Verbs with prepositions + an object
The preposition normally follows straight after the verb:

  • They got off the boat.
  • I ran up the road.
  • Look at those children!
  • She fell in the lake.
  • He sat on the table.

b) Verbs with prepositions + a pronoun object.

The preposition precedes the pronoun object, the same way as when it is an object!

  • They got off it.
  • I ran up it.
  • Look at them!
  • She fell in it.
  • He sat on it.

Exercise: Can you replace the objects with a pronoun?
