A Week in my Life: Notes on the text

- This is a diary so the writing is in snatches and not fully formed sentences.
- Note the short phrases tumble on top of one another to give the impression of rushing from on thing to another.
- Each day has a before and after, as if the writer jots down ideas early in the morning before everything kicks off and then later in the evening after the events of the day are over. Friday is different in this respect as the longing for the weekend moves into thoughts about what would be happening over the weekend and then to the final realisation that the weekend is actually worse than the week!
- The writing is almost ‘stream of consciousness’ moving from one thing to another – a set of thoughts rather than a chronological account.
- The events such as they are serve to anchor the thoughts and the writer flits from one to another. Her ‘busy life’ is also a series of ‘flits’ from one ting to the other and leaves us with the impression that if she were to anchor herself she might have a more organised life!
