(loud and clear – very clear and easy to understand
eg She made it loud and clear she had no intention of helping us. (= she left us in no doubt at all about it)
meddle – verb- DISAPPROVING – interfere, try to change or have an influence on things which are not your responsibility, especially in a critical, damaging or annoying way:
eg Mr and Mrs Brown were difficult neighbours – they were always meddling in other people’s business. I was glad when they moved away.
It’s all very well meddling with the system of school admissions – but if people don’t understand what they’re doing it just creates problems further down the line. (further down the line = at a later stage)
outcome noun [usually singular] – a result or effect of an action, situation, etc:
eg It will be interesting to see the outcome of the survey.

raison d’être (French) reason for existence
skew – verb – to cause something to be not straight or exact; to twist or distort, be unrepresentative:
eg Our household finances are a bit skewed this year, because we paid for a new boiler and also bought a new car.
hidden agenda – secret reason for doing something:
eg It is obvious the new visa requirements are part of a hidden agenda to discourage migration here.
that’s up to = that is the responsibility of – eg It’s up to John and me to solve the problem. It was up to us to inform the boss, not up to her.
