Where would Scotland be without the English? Step 1
Firstly please read the concerns and opinions that some Scots have about England and the English and check you understand what they mean!
1 Money is no object for the English.
(To be no object – to be no problem at all, because there is plenty of it.)
2 For centuries England has taken money that belonged to the Scots.
3 Westminster has a responsibility to support the Scottish economy.
4 Scotland should take priority over the English in terms of financial support, because Scotland contributes so much to the English economy.
5 England has deliberately kept Scotland poor, while reserving most of the UK’s wealth for itself.
6 The English are unfair, as they receive benefits the Scots don’t.
7 The best thing that could possibly happen to Scotland would be for it to be given complete independence from England.
8 Scotland is independent, and has its own Parliament. Consequently it deals with its financial affairs itself.
9 English people are wealthy at the direct expense of the Scots.
10 Mr Salmond knows the economic background of the disparity between the Scots and the English, so he can fight for justice for Scotland.
11 The Scots would have a better standard of living if England granted Scottish Parliament what it is owed.
12 It is only if the Scots defend their own interests that they will get what they are entitled to.
* Alex Salmond is the First Minster of Scotland, and the leader of the Scottish National Party.
