Word Partnerships

2 hippos Often certain words go together in partnership. Some of these are like ‘rules’ such as the words we use with ‘make’and ‘do’ , others are used together more ‘naturally’ by native speakers and they have to be learned. It is worth doing this to make language sound more natural and fluent.

For example:

  • cheerful – we would use this with person, colour but not day or marriage where we would probably use happy
  • perfect– with condition or health, but not with destination or weight where it would be more natural to use ideal

Here are some for you to try.

Match the noun and adjective together that form a common expression.
