Look at the data and write the first paragraph for this Task 1.

 

In comparison with the UK and Japan, the other two countries shown on the chart namely the US and Canada showed less movement over the period with the US reaching a high of only 2,500 in 2004. The US figure rose from its starting point of just over 1,500 and then dropped back slightly in the 2005 to just above 2,000. Meanwhile Canada, commencing a little higher than the US at 2,800, climbed slightly to just under 2,500 in the following year only to drop back dramatically in the final year to just over 1,000, the lowest figure on the table.

For the past year you have been a member of a sports club. Now you want to discontinue your membership.

Write a letter to the club secretary. In your letter:

• state what type of membership you have and how you have paid for this
• give details on how you have benefited from the club
• explain why you want to leave

 

It is with regret that I have to resign my membership at Grange but unfortunately my work now causes me to travel a great deal and I will be unable to dedicate the same amount of time that I could before to my tennis and the club in general. I am sorry to have to withdraw from tennis but I hope that this will be only a temporary thing and that I might be able to continue as before some time in the not too distant future. My membership is due for renewal at the end of the month and I will try and use the facilities as much as I can up to that date.
