We ¹ ………………… the New Year with a very special project which also ² ………………… our 60th anniversary. Yorkshire Life is working together with Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust to create a new woodland as part of a campaign to help ³ ………………… the Yorkshire Dales, the least wooded national park in the country.
It is a project ⁴ ………………… to the heart of Jonathan Wild, chairman of the family company Bettys & Taylors whose Trees for Life campaign has planted ⁵ ………………………….. three million trees ⁶………………….
His actions are the result of a ⁷ …………………he made to his children to protect the environment from the damaging effects of global warming. We believe we ⁸ ………………… do something to support his efforts and ⁹ …………………of the YDMT in our diamond jubilee year and we would like to invite readers to play a part too by ¹⁰ …………………a tree in the new woodland at Chapel Fell, a beautiful site above Malham Tarn that can be easily visited. Creating a woodland

We begin the New Year, which is also our 60th anniversary, with a ¹⁵ ……………….. – to create a new ¹⁶ ……………….. in the Yorkshire Dales. The aim is not only to celebrate our diamond ¹⁷ ………………… but to help reforest the Dales and ¹⁸ ………………… global warming.To do this Yorkshire Life has joined ¹⁹ ………………… with Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust to develop the Chapel Fell wood ²⁰ ………………… Malham ²¹ ………………… in the Dales.
(In the magazine journalist) John Woodcock looks at the case for more trees in the Yorkshire Dales and readers are invited to join in by dedicating a tree at the 7.4 acre site.
On a corner of Chapel ²²…………………, above Malham Tarn, a ²³ …………………sycamore has company at last. Maybe you heard its branches sighing that it had waited nearly a ²⁴ …………………of centuries for another tree to arrive and then 3,000 turned up all at once. Not its relatives, mind. In these parts sycamore is a lovely alien, out of keeping with a project that will eventually show what the Dales looked like before man got ²⁵ ………………. with the first axes more than three millennia ago.
A native woodland is being ²⁶ ………………… on what has long been a tree-less ²⁷ ………………… but for that solitary sycamore. Over the coming decades its first ²⁸ ………… will emerge as sturdy oak, ²⁹………………., hazel, hawthorn, bird cherry.
